Apple Shuts Down Optical Drives

It seems that Compact Discs are just not compact enough anymore, at least that's what Apple seems to have concluded.

Apple has shut down optical drives on their computers. From now on, you will not even be able to reinstall your system through DVD drives. All CD/DVD/Blu-Ray discs will be replaced by USB flash drives, and, it seems that Apple might be opening an online store for computer applications. The Mac App Store should be similar to the Store for Iphones, where you can find all sorts of applications - some free, some paid. Downloading media is definitely the future, with pretty much everyone having decent internet connection speeds today.

Personally, i think optical drives will live on for a long time as for desktop PC's, as sometimes, and in some countries, they are just much more convenient to have than using internet, and USB flash drives that have higher reading speeds than DVD's and Blu-Ray's are more expensive.
